Every year thousands of whales from Antarctica head to the warmer waters of Australia’s northern coasts. The migration provides a rare opportunity of catching a glimpse of these mysterious creatures as they pass through waters during the winter months.

With the migration route being closer to the coast, the whales can be easily seen from the predominant headlands. Take a look at some of the best whale watching destinations that make for unforgettable holidays to Australia!

Byron Bay

Located at the easternmost point of Australia, Byron Bay was a whaling station until the 1960's. Today the destination has become a popular spot among many vacationers on shoestring as well as luxury holidays to Australia and has remained one of the most enchanting whale-watching spots in the country. Humpback Whales play in the bay during the period between June and November. Visitors landing at New South Wales can also go for a whale watching trip for beholding the passing whales at Cape Byron lighthouse.

Albany

If you are on Western Australian tour or on Adelaide holidays, make way to Albany, the place well known for whale watching and has remained a compelling stop for keen whale watchers. Between June and October, both Humpback and Southern Right whales arrive in King George Sound, a seaway on the south coast of Western Australia, offering perfect glimpse to visitors.
