UK Travel
Anyone who is genuinely fond of his or her pet knows the trauma of entrusting the pet to someone else's care while going away for a long spell of time, especially overseas. Thankfully, the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) scheme allows you to accompany your cat, dog, or ferret to other countries and also travel back to the UK. In fact, while returning to the UK from certain countries, the pet need not be put through quarantine as long as certain conditions are met. Here is some information, which may prove useful for someone travelling with pets.
Travelling with pets
As far as travel between the UK and certain nations and territories are concerned, the term pet under the PETS scheme only covers cats, dogs, and ferrets. If you fly out with your pet to certain specific countries, and then further beyond, make sure that your pet is not outside those countries for at least 6 calendar months before returning to the UK. The list of these countries is available with the website of Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
You need to book your tickets well in advance especially if traveling with a pet and if you want to save on your airfares from London and return. Be aware that not all airlines or routes are PETS approved. This reduces your scope to grab cheap flights for your UK holidays on an already limited number of cheap airlines.
Airlines with no frills services are a big lure. Be practical. Even if some low cost airline offers the facility of transporting pets, find out about the airline's service quality and settle for a costlier airline if quality is better. A few extra pounds are nothing compared to pet's well-being.
Carefully go through every clause concerning travel with pets in the DEFRA website.
